Artist Statement
Paintings in this series are from my work entitled The Book of Khelon, a zine/accordion book/wallhanging comprised of 6 paintings and their accompanying painting-poems from my 2023 Shapeshifter series. 'Khelone' is a mythical Greek nymph (and the name of one of my paintings). Mythological stories say that Khelone was metamorphosed into a turtle as punishment for ridiculing the marriage of Zeus and Hera. This helped memorialize the priestesses who were "silenced" during an era of social upheaval between the indigenous pre-Hellenic goddess religions and the male-centered theology of the Indo-European tribes.

I'm Kat Crab, a self-taught multidisciplinary artist. Discovering my neurodivergence at fifty-five, I draw with my non-dominant hand, creating dreamscapes of resistance. Adopted at birth, I unearthed my roots at twenty-five, now embracing the Crone phase. My work honors seekers of belonging through intuition and ritual. I divide my time between Canada and California. katcrab.com
