About

Well what the heck is a
jelly bucket?

It’s an archaic slang term for a lunch pail, formerly used by coal miners and other laborers residing in Appalachia.

You've found your personal jelly bucket; a great place to fuel your literary interests. Jelly Bucket is the place to for book reviews, author interviews and insightful stories all curated by our staff and MFA students of the Bluegrass Writers Studio.

Issue #14 Nuerodivergent Voices

Cover artwork by Sima Schloss

This year we are pleased to feature neurodivergent writers and authors including Steph Ban, Ina Cariño, Ide Amari Thompson, Dave Osmundsen, and Savannah Miller, Day Morrow, and Sabrina Jovic among others. The works in the special section were edited by Nathan Spoon.

Our editor-in-chief, Bill McQueen, shares his thoughts in his opening letter. Here’s an excerpt.

“While this diversity of authors is partly a happy accident resulting from the ever-growing interconnectedness of the world, Jelly Bucket is also intentional in seeking particular voices. The special section in Issue #14 highlights neurodivergence. Our guest editor, Nathan Spoon, says, “Neurodivergent writers are regularly disruptive—even in creative contexts.” He has worked with alumni editor Andrew Analore to curate a collection of pieces that “revel in and celebrate the many shades of such disruption while simultaneously striving for various kinds of connection.” Count me in, Nathan. Let’s revel.”
